Saliva starts its journey from the salivary glands in the mouth and then travels through a series of tubes and channels until it reaches the mouth again.

While it’s traveling through these tubes, saliva mixes with other fluids produced by your body, such as mucus, bicarbonate, enzymes, and antibodies, to protect your teeth, gums, and tongue.

It also contains a special chemical called amylase that breaks down carbohydrates into smaller sugars like glucose and maltose for easier digestion.

2. Our Lungs Are the Largest Organ in the Body

Your lungs are the largest organ in the body, and they’re responsible for providing you with oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from the body. The lungs can hold up to 4.7 liters of air, that’s about one-fifth of a gallon.

Your lungs are also very flexible and elastic, meaning that they can expand or contract to fit any size lung capacity. This is important because it allows you to breathe deeply when you do physical activity or sports, but it also means that you can take shallow breaths when doing something like meditating.

The respiratory system includes your nose and mouth as well as your trachea (which leads down into your lungs), alveoli (tiny sacs where oxygen enters your bloodstream), bronchial tubes (which carry air from your lungs into your bronchioles), and bronchi (smaller branches off of the bronchial tubes).

3. Our Skin Is Home to Millions of Bacteria

The skin is the largest organ in the body, and it’s estimated that it’s home to over 1,000 species of bacteria. That’s a lot of bacteria. But don’t worry, most of these bacteria are harmless and actually help to keep our skin healthy.

4. We Shed up to 600,000 Skin Cells Per Hour

The skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells, and it’s estimated that the average person sheds up to 600,000 skin cells every hour. That’s a lot of skin cells. But don’t worry, it’s a natural process that helps keep our skin healthy.

5. Our Muscles are Stronger Than Steel

The muscles in our bodies are incredibly strong and can produce forces that are greater than steel. For example, the human jaw can bite down with a force of up to 200 pounds per square inch, which is much stronger than steel.

Conclusion

These are just some of the incredible things our bodies can do. Our bodies are amazing machines that are capable of some incredible feats. From making up to 25,000 quarts of saliva in a lifetime to having muscles that are stronger than steel, our bodies are capable of some amazing things. So the next time you’re feeling down about your body, just remember that it’s capable of some amazing feats.
